Growing camelina as a second crop in France: A participatory design approach to produce actionable knowledge

•Actionable knowledge on a little-known crop was produced using participatory design.•A multi-actor workshop and on-farm trials were combined to enhance innovative design.•Farmers introduced camelina as summer second crop in their cropping systems.•Assessment and monitoring indicators for camelina were identified.•Knowledge gaps hampering the development of camelina in fields were identified.
