A new method for planning of stand-alone hybrid PV/WT/BESS/diesel microgrids considering DR based on DARTP

Stand-alone microgrids play an important role in solving power supply problems in remote areas that are not connected to the grid. Optimal planning, which is the most important issue that need to be resolved in the design stage, directly determines the economic and security benefits of microgrids. To achieve greater economic benefits for stand-alone microgrids that comprise diesel generators, wind turbine generation systems, photovoltaic generation systems and battery energy storage systems, this paper presents an optimal planning method that considers the day-ahead real-time pricing demand response (DARTP-DR). First, an optimization model that includes the DARTP-DR is established based on a price elasticity matrix. Next, a combinatorial solution algorithm that combines the genetic algorithm with pattern search is introduced to solve the model. The proposed optimal planning method is applied to a real case study, and the results show that considering the DARTP-DR in the optimal planning considerably reduces the lifetime cost of stand-alone microgrids.
