Receptance based structural modification in a simple brake-clutch model for squeal noise suppression

•A way for squeal suppression in a brake-clutch model is proposed.•The modification needed is determined by a receptance-based inverse dynamic method.•The theoretical modification is implemented on the brake-clutch test rig removing squeal.•It is the first theoretical structural modification to suppress brake-clutch squeal.
