Pyrolysis methods impact biosolids-derived biochar composition, maize growth and nutrition

•Different pyrolysis methods produced biosolids biochar of different quality.•Traditional oven may produce a biosolids biochar with low quality.•Corn seeds did not germinate in soil-less bioassay with the traditional oven biochar.•Mixing biochar with soil and water reduces the negative effects of the traditional oven biochar.
