Facility layout by collision detection and force exertion heuristics

•Forces exerted by other facilities adjust facilities as points.•Each point considered as central point of facility shape and a flexible rectangle is adjusted called walls.•Suitable responses for collisions of facilities are calculated by mesh format and non-mesh format algorithms.•First, walls shrink to remove slack area, next walls expand and if there were no collisions, algorithm stops.•Permutations of ten facilities are calculated for validation.
