A Novel Mixed-Size Fixed-Outline Floorplacement Algorithm

In this paper, a novel fixed-outline floorplacer is proposed to handle large scale mixed-size instances designs. First, recursive partition is implemented to decrease the scale. A circuit is partitioned into clusters, which can be packed in a given fixed outline effectively based on a zero deadspace packing algorithm. Then, a boundary constraint-based placement algorithm is implemented to cluster modules in the aspect given by the first stage. Finally, several techniques are proposed to further improve the total HPWL. Experimental results show that compared to the best floorplacer, the proposed algorithm can reduce the wirelength by more than 5%.
