Differential Haematobia irritans infestation levels in beef cattle raised in silvopastoral and conventional pasture systems.

•We compared the infestation by the horn fly (Haematobia irritans), in beef cattle raised in a silvopastoral and a conventional pasture system.•Parasite counts and dung fauna were studied, along with microclimate in the two systems.•Infestation by horn fly was lower in the silvopastoral pasture system.•The decrease in horn flies can most probably be ascribed to higher incidence of natural enemies.
