A laser power management method for on-Chip photonic interconnect

Photonic interconnects can provide huge bandwidths and have emerged as a promising communication backbones for future many-core systems. However, the static power dissipated in the laser source may limit the performance of future photonic NoC (Network-on-Chip) by dominating the stringent network power budget. In this paper, a laser power supply scheme based on Single-Write-Multi-Read (SWMR) crossbar is proposed. The laser power is dynamically adjusted by predicting the future network requirement at runtime. The evaluation shows that the laser power consumption is effectively reduced compared with the static power supply method.
