In the past decade cloud computing has emerged as one of the key sectors of information technology (IT) industry, attracting attention from academia and industry alike. More recently, it has been identified as one of the key area of focus for business and technological research and innovation. We now hear terms such as "born in cloud" or "cloud native" services which is indicative of the fact that cloud computing has requirements that are fundamentally different than non-cloud technology. Major cloud computing service providers and academic researcher are coping with finding software and hardware solutions to address the limitations inherent in hardware components i.e. storage, network and compute. Advancements in virtualization technologies, software define networking and the emergence of new accelerator hardware will provide a significant boost to the evolution of cloud computing. The success of cloud computing as a technology and business model depends upon the adoption of these emerging technologies. Technologies such as FPGAs and GPUs can be used to provide computation offloading of cloud services for better performance while software define environment will provide efficient management, segmentation and performance of cloud service.
