Evaluation of centralised and autonomous routing strategies in major incident response

•We present a model for the routing of emergency responders.•Four routing strategies are described in terms of a simulation and predictive model.•Each strategy is evaluated, considering the effects of both efficient routing and uncertainty in travel time prediction.•Allowing responders to make their own routing decisions can be beneficial, despite the increase in travel time uncertainty.
