Study on Extraction of Titanium from Titanium‐bearing Blast Furnace Slags

Extraction of titanium oxide from a titanium-bearing blast furnace slag was investigated in this paper. NaOH was used as a separating agent. The sodium metatitanate Na2TiO3 crystals were obtained by high temperature melting of the mixture of slag and NaOH. TiO2 was obtained through decomposition ultimately. The mineral morphology of the slag was analyzed by microscope, and the composition was analyzed by XRF and ICP. The results showed that the most effective mixture melt temperature was 1350 degrees C, and the recovery percentage of TiO2 was 90.96%. The experiment could provide an effective route to recover titanium oxide from titanium-bearing blast furnace slags.
