Evaluation of matrix metalloproteinase-9 and tissue inhibitor of metalloproteinase-1 levels in peri-implant sulcular fluid]

To investigate the levels of MMP-9 and TIMP-1 in healthy and diseased peri-implant tissue.Fifty-one implants in 39 patients were selected and divided into the healthy group and the inflammatory group according to the absence or presence of gingival redness, bleeding on probing, and progressive horizontal absorption of alveolar bone. The clinical parameters included: depth of gingival pocket(PD), plaque & calculus index (PLI), gingival bleeding index (GBI), and MMP-9, TIMP-1 levels in peri-implant sulcular fluid (PISF).PD, PLI, GBI and MMP-9 levels were significantly higher in inflammatory group than in healthy group (P < 0.001).MMP-9 level in PISF was closely associated with the clinical parameters.
