To meet the requirement of high-quality and personalized mathematics tutoring service, a Mathematics Intelligent Tutoring System (MITS) is developed for middle school student based on three-tier client/server architecture. And ontology is introduced to the model of knowledge to express the concepts and their relations in learning experience. According to the learning experience of the learners, the MITS can provide the personalized, comprehensive and systematic tutoring information such as personalized guidance, analysis and detailed answers, etc. Using MITS for a period of time, learners can improve their abilities in solving problem and drawing inferences about other cases from one instance. © 2013 Springer Science+Business Media.
