Mitotic cells recognition in HEp-2 images.

•We distinguish between mitotic and interphase HEp-2 cells.•We distinguish positive and negative mitotic cells.•We apply a cascade recognition approach using a set of features tailored for the task.•We adopt a training methodology specifically devised for skewed samples distributions.•The approach has been evaluated on a public reference dataset of HEp-2 cells.
