XML in Dynamic Multimedia Content Management

This paper demonstrates how the XML-based markup language can be used as a basis for dynamic multimedia content management, which is needed in providing distributed multimedia services for mobile users in heterogeneous environments. XML facilitates definition of hierarchical document structure, which can be altered to fit the requirements of the current client. We also describe how the system specific information may be added to an XML-based markup language to transport internal service information through the system. This enables dynamic multimedia presentation construction, pay-per-view billing and user profiling. The usage of XML in dynamic content management is demonstrated with an adaptive distributed end-to- end multimedia service.
