On the Role of Binding and Rate Adaptation in Packet Networks

In this note I have attempted to identify some of the key architectural advantages of packet-based network interfaces. Could we have arrived at a slightly better architectural solution with a different packet-based protocol suite? Probably. Does it matter? I think not. Does that mean IP is the end of the road for network research? Of course not!
