The PersonalRouter is a mobile personaluser agent whosetaskis to dynamicallymodeltheuser, updateits knowledgeof amarketof wirelessserviceprovidersand selectprovidersthatsatisfiestheuser’ sexpectedpreferences. The taskof seamlesslymanagingthe procurement and executionof short or long term connection for amobileuseris furthercomplicatedbecausemobile usersperformsmultiple, concurrentandvariedtasksin differentlocationsandarereluctantto interactandprovide subjecti ve preferenceinformationto theagent.In thispaperwepresentadetaileddescriptionandaformal modelof theproblem.Wethenshow how theusermodelingproblemcanberepresentedasaMarkov Decision Processandsuggestreinforcementlearningandcollaborative filtering astwo candidatesolutionmechanisms for theinformationproblemin theusermodeling.
