With the combination of experiments, numerical modelling, and data-driven analysis, Dr Nguyen’s research aims to provide better understanding in (and thereby improving) the performance, sustainability and resilience of buildings and infrastructure. His work focuses on the following areas:
Concrete materials and structures: Developing, characterising, and testing foamed concrete, lightweight concrete, geopolymer concrete, recycled glass concrete, etc.
Numerical and data-driven modelling:
Developing finite element models for a wide range of materials such as concrete, composite, bioinspired and auxetic materials.
Exploring the applications of data-driven models (machine learning, deep learning) in civil engineering: predicting the properties of concrete; detecting and monitoring cracks on concrete structures
Sustainability and renewable transition:
Improving building energy efficiency by adaptive façade design
Techno-economic analysis of renewable energy storage system
Hydrogen storage and distribution
