个人简介
Saad Ali is a Principal Research Scientist at ClipMine, a seed stage startup in Mountain View, California. Prior to joining ClipMine, he was a Senior Research Scientist at SRI International. His research spans various areas of computer vision with primary focus on visual motion based understanding of crowds, event and human action modeling in videos, and lately parsing of informational and video game video content. He has over 30 publications in leading conferences and journals in computer vision, pattern recognition, and multimedia, with over 3000 citations of his work (as of 2016). His research on crowd analysis was show-cased as the cover article of Communications of the ACM (2011), a prestigious publication in computing and information technology fields. He has edited a book on Modeling, Simulation and Visual Analysis of Crowds which was published by Springer (2013). He currently holds 3 patents on his work. Saad has served as reviewer for leading conferences and journals in computer vision, multimedia, and pattern recognition including IEEE TPAMI, IEEE TMM, CVPR, ECCV, and ICCV. He has served as program chair for 1st IEEE Workshop on Modeling, Simulation and Visual Analysis of Large Crowds, held in conjunction with ICCV 2013. Over the years, Saad has worked and played key roles in various government funded research projects, including DARPA’s Visual Media Reasoning (VMR), IARPA’s Automated Low-level Analysis and Description of Diverse Intelligence video (ALADDIN), NGA’s Hierarchical Urban and Natural Terrain Exploitation and Reasoning (HUNTER), and DARPA’s Video Analysis and Content Extraction (VACE). As a principal investigator, Saad led development of a Real Time Automated Broadcast Monitoring and Information Exploitation System. This research was funded by National ICT R&D Fund of Ministry of Information Technology, Government of Pakistan (2013-16). Saad co-founded TechArete Pvt. Ltd. (2014), a company focusing on developing cutting edge visual analysis solutions for the television broadcast industry in Pakistan. He received his PhD in 2008 from the University of Central Florida advised by Prof. Mubarak Shah, and his BS degree from the Ghulam Ishaq Institute of Engineering Science and Technology in 2003. He conducted his postdoctoral research with Prof. Takeo Kanade at the Robotics Institute of Carnegie Mellon University.
