Parviz Rastgoufard (Senior Member, IEEE) received the B.Sc. degree in electrical engineering from the State University of New York, Buffalo, NY, USA, in 1976, and the M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in systems science from Michigan State University, East Lansing, MI, USA, in 1978 and 1983, respectively.
He served in many roles at Tulane University, New Orleans, LA, USA, from 1987 to 2007, including a Professor and the Chair of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from 1998 to 2007; the Director of the Electric Power Research Laboratory from 1991 to 2007; the Chair of the American Association of University Professors from 2003 to 2007; a member of Tulane Senate for six years, and the Entergy Endowed Chair in Electric Power Engineering from 1998 to 2007. He has been serving as an Emeritus Professor of electrical engineering and computer science and the Emeritus Entergy Endowed Chair for Electric Power Engineering with Tulane University since July 2007. He joined The University of New Orleans (UNO), New Orleans, and has been serving as the Entergy Endowed Chair for Power Systems Engineering—a $2 million endowment established by Louisiana Board of Regents and Entergy Services, Inc., since August 2007. He is currently engaged in research and teaching power systems engineering and serving as the Director of Power & Energy Research Laboratory (PERL) and the General Chair of UNO Engineering Forum since 2009 and chairing panels of experts on Engineering Education, Cybersecurity, and Smart Cities in the years 2016, 2017, and 2019, respectively. Through collaboration between the Entergy and Tulane School of Business and the School of Engineering, he was instrumental in the creation of the Entergy-Tulane Energy Institute, Tulane University School of Business, New Orleans, from 2004 to 2007.
Dr. Rastgoufard is also a member of the New Orleans Architecture, Construction, and Engineering (ACE) Board. He has been serving as a professional engineer, a member of the Industry Board of Directors, a member or the chair of 25 search committees, and a research and engineering consultant for several local and national companies since 1988. He has served as the General Chair of the Society for Electric Power Research Implementation (SEPRI), a collaboration between universities and industry in the State of Louisiana, from 1990 to 1994, and the Co-Founder of the Tulane Engineering Forum and serving as a member of its organizing committee from 1998 to 2004.
