个人简介
My research interests sit at the intersection of networking and security. Broadly, my research seeks to increase our understanding of the modern Internet routing infrastructure and use that understanding to build effective and deployable solutions to security vulnerabilities facing that infrastructure. Most of my research career has centered around the Border Gateway Protocol (BGP) the routing protocol used to find paths between large networks, called Autonomous Systems (ASes). My largest arc of research has explored how BGP interacts with a family of attacks known as Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attacks. I explore both how the Internet’s routing infrastructure is negatively impacted by these attacks, and how BGP can potentially be leveraged to form a mitigation strategy. A second arc of my research focuses on conducting large scale measurements of the BGP infrastructure, which provides valuable insights to distributed system designers and network operators. My last area of concentration focuses on next generation Internet infrastructure protocols. Specifically, I am interested in how we can use these protocols to securely provide connectivity even in the presence of extreme threats to network availability.
