Hridesh Rajan is an Associate Professor of Computer Science at Iowa State University, where he has been since August 2005. Hridesh's research aims to improve software quality and programmer productivity by development and refinement of means of abstraction in computer programming languages. He leads two research projects: Boa and Panini.
Main goal of the Boa project is to decrease the barrier to entry for research that aims to analyze software and its evolution at a large scale. Boa provides a web-based data infrastructure backed by a curated large data set, and a compute framework that allows researchers to pose their research questions as short declarative programs.
Main goal of the Panini project is to enable modular reasoning about concurrent programs. Panini's linguistic abstractions provide two main benefits to developers. First, they need not write concurrency-related code by hand, rather all of this code is auto-generated, thereby reducing chances of errors. Second, developers and tools can more modularly reason about their concurrent modules by considering only that module and the interfaces of static types referred to in that module. This greatly improves scalability of the reasoning process.
Hridesh earned his doctorate from the University of Virginia in 2005, where he also got his masters in computer science. He earned his undergraduate degree from the Indian Institute of Technology, Banaras Hindu University (formerly IT-BHU) in 2000. At the Iowa State University, he has been recognized by the US National Science Foundation (NSF) with a CAREER award in 2009 and by the college of LAS with an Early Achievement in Research Award in 2010, and a Big-12 Fellowship in 2012. He was a Member of Technical Staff at Bell Labs, Lucent Technologies in Bangalore India from 2000 - 2001.
