个人简介
Christine Seers is a Senior Research Fellow in the Melbourne Dental School. Most of her current research fits under the umbrella of oral disease, particularly the chronic human disease periodontitis and oral cancer.
Her research has involved determination of the molecular interactions that underpin the relationships of oral pathobionts and the human host as well as biomarkers of oral malignancy. Christine is undertaking research into bacterial virulence factors important in oral colonisation and disease, development of a vaccine for prevention of periodontitis and use of saliva as a non-invasive patient sample containing biomarkers useful for early diagnosis of oral carcinoma. The long-term aim of these studies is to develop novel strategies for the prevention and treatment of oral diseases. Christine is an author on high impact peer reviewed publications with the research funded by the NH&MRC, the Cooperative Research Center scheme and Australian Dental Research Foundation. Christine has received the Colgate Young Investigator Award, the International Association for Dental Research (IADR)-EH Hatton Award and the IADR John A. Gray Fellowship. Christine is an active member of The Australian Society for Microbiology (Vic Branch committee, Secretary and Treasurer). She has been a research leader in two Oral Health Cooperative Research Centres (2003-2019) and the spin-off biotech company Denteric, where she is involved in the translation of basic research into commercial products. She has supervised PhD, Doctor of Clinical Dentistry and BSc(Hons) students to completion. She has had a research role the Melbourne Dental School for over 30 years.
