Dr. Thomas Risse is head of Electronic Services at the University Library Johann Christian Senckenberg of the Goethe University Frankfurt. He is responsible for the strategic development and operation of the electronic services offered by the library. Before joining the University Library he was deputy managing director of the L3S Research Center and research group leader at L3S in Hannover, Germany. In 1998 he joined the Fraunhofer Institute for Integrated Publication System (FhG-IPSI) in Darmstadt where he worked in several European and industrial projects. From 2001-2006 he was the manager of the division for Intelligent Information Environments. From 2004 - 2007 he was also the technical director of the European funded research project BRICKS (Building Resources for Integrated Cultural Knowledge Services), which aim was the development of a decentralized infrastructure for the integrated access on distributed digital cultural resources. He was the coordinator of the EU FP7 Living Web Archive (LiWA) project to develop advanced methods for Web archiving and to ensure long term semantic accessibility of archives. In the EU FP7 project ARCOMEM on Web archiving using social media information (s.a. on YouTube), he served as the scientific and technical director. He was also involved in the European research infrastructure project SoBigData on ethic-sensitive social mining.
